MISSIONS MATTER: WATER FOR LIFE
In 2024, Zion Global Missions launched a fundraising campaign to purchase and install water systems in four villages where Zion Global Ministries and Missions serve. These villages have not received any government funding to ensure access to clean and safe water. The villages are located in Kitui County and Mumoni sub-county, with an approximate population of 2,400. Severe drought has been a way of life for decades, with rainfall only lasting a few days twice a year and averaging about five inches per year. The seeds planted barely support farmers and their families with sufficient harvests. Dry riverbeds are used as makeshift collection points where wagons and donkeys carry water gathered after children dig by hand to reach a limited water table, pouring this water into containers for cooking, bathing, farming, and laundry. Limited shallow wells are not keeping up with population growth, and in some villages, owners lock access, forcing villagers to pay for water. Thankfully, waterborne diseases are not widespread. However, wells are no longer the primary solution in areas with the financial means, as borehole systems have replaced them. Gathering water remains the responsibility of children and youth, mostly girls, who walk up to 15 miles round trip each day to reach shallow wells or riverbeds to fill containers. This means they often miss school, fall behind in their studies, and face reduced educational and career opportunities—leaving many girls behind and their dreams unfulfilled.
Bridging Technology and Mission for Clean Water
Our goal is to partner with NGOs in Kenya or those based in the US who have operations for installing boreholes or water purification that can be done on a small scale. We are seeking partnerships with universities or technology programs that have developed international study programs that will bring the latest technological and cost-effective means for accessing safe water sources, sustainable farming practices, and improved methods for accessing water in remote communities.

WATER FOR LIFE: BRINGING WATER TO TSEIKURU
We completed the first of four borehole systems in Tseikuru that include a 6,500-gallon water tank, solar panels, and three kiosks where villagers can access clean water 24/7 at no cost. We are partnering with a Kenyan drilling company that has extensive experience and the mechanical equipment needed to reach remote areas and install this infrastructure. We also installed security lights, signage, and other amenities to ensure the construction site and public areas remain safe.
Since completion, over five hundred children and adults have visited the kiosks. A small garden was planted onsite and has already produced enough vegetables for both local consumption and sale at the weekly market. The system has proven to be an enormous success, bringing hope, improved health, and stability to the village.
In January 2026, we completed an evaluation of our first project and are now moving forward with phase two, which includes installing systems in three remote villages that are not in close proximity to Tseikuru. These locations have no paved roads or public transportation. Geological surveys have been completed for drilling and sites have been identified.
Future plans include farming and agriculture training, along with introducing technology for more sustainable farming practices. Upgrading basic farming equipment will provide a significant boost, and our goal is to help farmers adopt methods that maximize harvests while preserving the environment.
